Goodness, we needed a getaway! My parents left town for FL to see Riley sing in a performance and that meant their house was empty (minus Aaron) over Memorial Day weekend. No brainer! We decided to invite the Powells and make a weekend of it. Funny enough, we did very little planning because of all the crazy end of the school year stuff. So it was really easy going, make it up as you go sort of thing.
When Paige's two friends at school came down with Covid the day we were set to leave, we all tensed a bit as we figured out what our next move would be. I certainly didn't want to spread anything and we wouldn't know for a few days whether Paige was contagious. I'm glad she had chosen to wear her mask for the last two weeks and felt that might offer a bit of protection even when the other two had not. We decided on a test and go plan. I tested Paige the morning we found out about the other two and then again the morning the Powells were supposed to leave to get to us. All along the way she was symptom free and testing negative. Just to be safe, we pulled Paige into a different room for sleeping purposes and she agreed to mask while she was in the house with everybody. I know those two things weren't easy for her, but she was a trooper and did great.
So with the Powells headed up to the lake, I ran to the grocery store and prepped just a couple of easy dishes. We grilled hamburgers and did homemade pizza one night. They all loved the panini maker so lunches were easy too. With paper plates on hand, meals were great!
Our main activities were boating, tubing, knee boarding, swimming, jumping off the dock, chatting, skiing, lounging on an island beach and generally hanging out. The lake got busy in the afternoons so we were good about getting out at a reasonable time before things got too crazy with bad drivers. The weather was PERFECT! The kids loved staying up late and eating too many treats. We adults had a nice time chatting and just relaxing for a bit. It was definitely a success, even with a little bit of sunburn.
With everybody helping, clean up was easy on Monday afternoon. I think we are ready to hit this last week of school running. Anna is already out on summer break, but if you can believe it we still have last school things to do! Paige will have her symposium for her impact project tomorrow and we will also have the track banquet tomorrow night. Anna has a skate party for orchestra as well as a sleepover. I think NEXT week we finally simmer down a bit before we head to TN to see the fam, including John and Jessi who are moving back as I type this!
