Crawdaddy 5K

The May madness has been real this week. I always say the end of the school year is about as busy as December time. There are so many end of the school year festivities and appreciations and testing...the list just goes on and on! We managed to squeeze in another 5K for Anna and Patrick at the Crawdaddy Festival. It should be noted that Paige calls these water scorpions. Tomato, tom-ah-to.

Anna has been sick this week and even stayed home from school one day. She also hasn't been training well over the last few weeks. And last night we had our HUGE teacher cookout for 50 people which meant a late night. So I wasn't quite sure what race day would look like, but she rebounded and was ready to go.

First stop...the playground to "warm-up." I have no idea where they get all this energy. This is quintessential Paige and Anna...running bib and cat ears.

The cheering section...

The race was one big loop so we saw them at the start and then at the finish which was at the same stop. I spotted another girl about Anna's size that was way out front. This isn't unusual as more inexperienced runners will start out too fast and then die which is where Anna passes them. This one looked pretty strong and sure enough she finished at an outstanding 21:30 (age 9). I got some info on what she's doing as she is part of a club team.

Anyway, Anna did pretty well considering her week. She finished at 25 mins, 2nd place in her age division and 15th female overall. Her prize was a cool glass and the t-shirt is pretty nice too. She had two sub 8 minute miles. It was also a very HOT morning with a later start than we're used to so all in all we're pretty happy with the results.

There is no speed limit for this kid.
