Kings Mountain State Park

Guess what? We are only 10 parks away from our goal of going to every state park in SC!! It's the final count down! On Saturday we had a lazy morning waking up. We needed it after our first full week of school and a late night on Friday. But we got lunches made and headed out the door for Kings Mountain State Park. It's only an hour and a half away and has a really neat historic farm on it. We walked the mile hike to the farm and looked around. Anna found a real black rat snack and Paige found a snack skin.Of course, Patrick enjoyed the information on a real cotton gin located on the farm.

After our hike, we joined up with the Currys at the Kings Mountain National Park located just 2 miles up the road. It was nice to eat a picnic lunch and then check out the historic displays including games. We also got to watch a weapon demonstration. I like that they used three different types of rifles and it showed the differences between how long it took to load each. We also checked out the museum before headed to our next stop: Windy  Hill Orchard.

It was fun to chill in the shade while we ate apple donuts and sampled a flight of had ciders. The kids got to play some checkers, sip on fresh apple juice and go on a hay ride. I could tell they were all beat because they were ready to go. Check out Paige napping in the car on the ride home!

What a fun way to spend a Saturday. We're looking forward to planning our remaining visits which are mainly on the coast.
