The Lion King-Summer 2019 PKCT Production

The kids finally had a chance to put on their production of the Lion King. This was something they spent all summer working on. From the props and background screens to the costumes and songs, these kids did it all by themselves. This idea was born from their own creativity (and maybe a bit of boredom). I simply provided the space, time and maybe a few snacks to keep them going. To me it's one of the best uses of summer and helped promote a ton of skills: creativity, communication, time management, arts and crafts, teamwork, resourcefulness and so much more.

The Currys were a great addition and because they were watching the Tong boys all summer, we had a couple of additional kids as well. So all together there were 10 actors. I was able to get them together a few times this summer and they independently worked on set design and costumes. It was hilarious when us mamas were shut up in the office while the kids were hard at work for a few hours at a time.

There was much excitement when the day finally came to perform. They put up a concession stand and I helped with the curtains for behind the scenes. Madison was so patient and sweet to do the makeup for all the kids. And David acted as the sound engineer.

It was definitely a memorable experience. They would do a scene and take a couple of minutes backstage to change (and chatter which cracked us up). Then out they would pop for the next song. It was so cute to see them singing and acting. We were all impressed by their line memorization. It helped that both Madison and Paige had already performed this play and both had scripts.

We ended the evening with a pizza and dessert after party. The kids were so tired, but proud of their hard work. The parents were too. ;)
